Band edgier, performance more skilful and atmosphere more electric than before

More than 4,000 screaming McFly fans became the stars of their own collaboration with the band last night, as the four-piece took to the stage in Aberdeen.
The band, who released the official Children in Need single Do Ya yesterday, invited the crowd to join in a live recording and download it to their mobile phones to raise money for the charity.
Performing at the AECC’s Press and Journal Arena as part of their Radio:ACTIVE tour, McFly bounced, twirled and rocked their way through a packed 90-minute show.
With a futuristic Mad Max-inspired set, the band – Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd – opened with an explosive version of their single One for the Radio, then went on to squeeze 17 songs into the show, along with fireworks, flames and glitter galore.
Young girls and boys screamed out songs from the latest album, while the mums and dads managed to sing along to the more familiar hits such as Five Colours in Her Hair, Obviously and All About You.
2008 has been a nerve-racking year for McFly, with the band leaving their record label and setting up their own self-funded label Super Records.
It appears this brave gamble has paid off, with the band coming across as much more relaxed and happy on stage than during previous visits to the city.
Their style seemed edgier, the performance more skilful and the atmosphere more electric than ever. They genuinely appeared to be having the time of their lives.
With a comic take on the Michael Jackson classic Black or White, complete with crotch-grabbing dance moves, and an acoustic version of Room on the Third Floor, the band left the stage before returning for a rousing performance of the final song on the album, aptly titled The Last Song.
Front man Tom Fletcher thanked the crowd for their support over the past five years before belting out the words: “If this is the last song I ever sing, I'm giving it everything.”
With a performance like last night's, it will be a long time before McFly take their last bow.-----
